COBH RAMBLERS 0 TRALEE DYNAMOS 1

Cassidy’s hot streak continues as Dynamos pick up three points on the road:

Eoin Cassidy’s third goal in the A Championship (and fourth if you include the FAI Cup) was enough to give Dynamos all three points in this tight game played before a good crowd in St Coleman’s Park in Cobh.

Again it was James Sugrue’s sublime crossing ability, paired with Cassidy’s prowess in the air the unlocked the opposition defense.

Indeed Sugrue’s carressing of the ball for crosses drew gasps of admiration for the crowd (and not just from the girls in the stand either!).

Dynamos started the game with Adrian Quirke coming in on the left of mid field and Theo Diggins at left back following Stephen O’Mahony’s departure for the US . David O’Leary was unable to take part following the injury he picked up last week.

Dynamos began brightly and forced two early corners but it was Cobh who had the first real shot in anger. In the 10th minute Wayne Guthrie made a great save when Dynamos were caught on the break. Thomas McGrath set up Shane Geasley but Guthrie spread himself excellently to make the save.

He was forced into a second save shortly after this when Stephen Bruton’s long range effort was on target but the keeper got his body behind it and held on.

From his clearance here Chris Kerins was unlucky not to get off a shot. Dynamos were stung into action and a good move involving Sugrue and Jamie McIntyre whose cross was volleyed over by Adrian McHugh.

Four minutes later in the 25th minute a Jamie McIntyre shot was well held by Alan Burns in the Cobh goal.

Dynamos were now getting on top and didn’t have to wait long for their reward. Adrian Quirke set up McIntyre and when his shot was put behind cue the Sugrue/ Cassidy show. Sugrue took the corner from the right and Cassidy climbed highest at the back post to head home.

Indeed he was unlucky two minutes later not to double his lead as he just failed to get on the end of an Eddie Duggan cross.

Ramblers responded with a corner of their own but Guthrie held easily from a Peter O’Halloran headed while at the other end Dynamos finished the half on the attack forcing a corner which was cleared just as the half time whistle went.

For most of the second half Dynamos were in control with their back four and mid field winning their battles and restricting Cobh to few meaningful efforts.

At the other end Adrian Quirke just failed to get on the end of an Eddie Duggan cross while Kerins and Cassidy also close. Indeed it was the goal scorer who came closest to a second goal. A James Sugrue corner was passed back out to him by Jamie McIntyre and his cross found Cassidy on the edge of the six yard box but his powerful header crashed back off the bar.

Dynamos did have to survive a late scare when the impressive Michael O’Shea put a low ball into the box for Emmet O’Hanlon but his shot was brilliantly saved by Guthrie low at his near post.

To be fair Dynamos were comfortable for the majority of the game and probably deserved a second goal but one was enough to give Dynamos the win and the three points.

They now go into the next home game, against Bray Wanderers next Sunday at 3pm, on a winning roll and will be looking for a similar performance against the visitors.
