TRALEE DYNAMOS 2 COBH RAMBLERS 4

Padraig Harnett writes:

After 70 minutes of this game Tralee Dynamos staged a Lazarus like resurrection but unfortunately on this occasion Lazarus didn’t stay risen and by the 92nd minute the game was over.

Dynamos trailed 2-0 and under pressure with three quarters of the match over. They conceded the first goal right on the stroke of half-time. Having had only a few chances to go ahead they were hit by a sucker punch in the 44th minute.

Dan Stack was given too much time on the ball and he put the ball into the box and with Pierce Donaghy getting a run on the defenders he guided the ball home past Del O’Shea.

It came at a bad time for Dynamos as they had just created their best chance of the half. Aaron Houlihan had played the ball forward for Chris Kerins. He beat the Cobh keeper to the ball and back headed it but two defenders go back to clear.

To be fair Cobh were by far the better team in the first half and deserved their lead.

Ramblers opened the second period streaming forward and had three great chances to double their lead.

Firstly Eoin Cassidy did very well to get a block in and then Donaghy had two glorious chances to put his side further ahead but he missed both.

For a minute it looked like it mightn’t be Cobh’s day and surely Dynamos would get a chance.

But it was at the other end that the next score came with James Murphy putting the cross in and Donaghy finding too much room to shoot home on the hour.

It looked to be all over but Dynamos must be given great credit for how they performed in the final 20 minutes.

Two subs made the first goal with Eddie Duggan’s cross being headed home by Brian Murphy and suddenly it was game on.

Ten minutes later and on the 82nd minute it was, unbelievably it was 2-2. James Sugrue floated in a great free kick and Maurice O’Rahilly proved once again why he is so dangerous at both ends, heading home the equaliser.

Amazingly Dynamos looked the more lightly to go on and get the winner and Sugrue had a great chance but credit must go to another sub, Cobh reserve keeper Stephen Deasey made a great save with his feet to keep the scores level.

Dynamos would have been delighted with a point if the final whistle had blown then but unfortunately there was three minutes of injury time.

Right on 90 minutes came a crushing blow. A corner was floated into the box and Cassidy and Del O’Shea combine to clear. There looked to be no danger when the ball fell to JP O’Halloran 35 yards out but he hit one of the best volleys seen for a long time – right into the top corner of the Dynamos net.

The Tralee side were now shocked and a minute later Kevin McCarthy was dispossessed by a rampant Ramblers and Alan O’Flynn looked up and played a delicate chip that just eluded O’Shea fingers and so it ended 4-2 to Cobh.

The win leaves Dynamos on 7 points from 5 with Ramblers moving onto 13 points from 8 played and second placed in the table.
