F.C. CARLOW 1 TRALEE DYNAMOS 1
Tralee Dynamos & F.C. Carlow shared
the spoils in a pulsating battle in Ballon. F.C. Carlow had the first chance in
ernest after 4 minutes when the assistant referee alerted the referee to a
goalkeeping infringement outside the box. Neale
Phelan struck the shot goal wards only to be bravely blocked by David Conway in
the Dynamos wall.
F.C. Carlow applied all the early
pressure and should have been rewarded in the 6th minute with Andrew
Hickey in possession of the ball inside the Dynamos box with his team mates in
excellent positions screaming for the pass he turned selfishly towards goal only
to have his goal bound effort easily blocked by Adrian Quirke. 3 minutes later
with Dynamos ready to take a quick free kick Andrew Hickey stopped the ball from
travelling was yellow carded for his efforts. One of the many cautions in a game
that both side applied themselves fairly throughout.
Dynamos first effort came from a James Sugrue corner that went towards the back post and met with the header of Chris Kerins who directed his header across goal for Maurice O’Rahilly effort just wide on 13 minutes. 2 minutes later came the best chance of the match thus far when Sugrue intercepted a cross field pass, playing Chris Kerins in on goal with his first touch his controlled the ball and with the keeper advancing in a 1v1 situation his shot went wide of the post when clearly by his own standard Chris should have done better.
That man again Grzegorz Sykula scored the opening goal for the second time in our two meetings so far this season for F.C. Carlow. Right back Alan Wrenn got possession down the wing under no pressure his crossed the ball to Neale Phelan who setup Grzegorz Sykula who was clinical with his side foot effort from 10 yards giving Dynamos keeper Derek O’Shea no chance with his effort.
Dynamos had 2 efforts from James Sugrue in the 30th & 38th minute to no avail. Goalkeeper Derek O’Shea made the save of the match in the 40th minute when Grzegorz Sykula pass in behind the defense and with Craig Hore running onto the ball striking first time from 12 yards the outstretched hand of O’Shea deflected the ball out for a corner much to the relief of the Dynamos bench.
Whatever happened in the Dynamos dressing room at half time had the desired effect as they completely outplayed their hosts in the second half. James Sugrue put through Kerins in the 46th minute only to be denied by a last ditch Adam Byrne tackle. In the 54th minute a sweeping Dynamos move involving Ivkovic, Sugrue who got the ball to Chris Kerins inside the box and with both players in support Kerins back heeled effort was deflected out for a corner.
At this stage of the game with Dynamos well on top David Conway in the middle of the park controlled matters spraying diagonal passes left & right linking up with his team mates as Dynamos continued to apply the pressure in pursuit of an equalizer. One of his passes found Aaron Houlihan whose shot on goal was saved by Gavin Dowling in the Carlow goal.
Dynamos had another glorious chance in the 71st minute when centre back Eoin Cassidy created a few yards space and his long ball pass to Duggan who breached the high line by Carlow crossing for the inrushing Sugrue who shot over the bar with only the keeper to beat. Paul Russell replaced Uros Ivokic in the 72nd minute for his League of Ireland debut.
The breakthrough for Dynamos finally came in the 85th minute when a throw in was awarded to Dynamos and for a split second F.C. Carlow switched off allowing Duggan to steal a yard getting in behind the defense to cross to Eoin Cassidy who had moved to centre forward to slot home and give the Tralee side a valuable point.
