TRALEE DYNAMOS 2 GALWAY UNITED 0

Padraig Harnett media officer writes;

Dynamos patience pays off as the get the better of a resilient Galway United:

It took Dynamos until the 70th minute to break down a Galway United side, who although weakened numerically were certainly hard workers.

The travelled with only twelve players while Dynamos were also down a number of players with Maurice O’Rahilly and Jonathan Burrows still out and Adam Piggott also missing after he picked up a knee injury during the week.

However they were able to call on the services of Uros Ivkovic who made his starting debut, and an impressive one at that, and Aaron Houlihan, another product of the Kingdom Boys conveyor belt of young talent.

Dynamos were looking to bounce back from last weeks away defeat to St Pat’s and started the brightest. However the first real scoring threat came from Galway as they forced two corners in a row and from the second Cian McBrien headed over.

On the attack Uros Ivkovic was getting a lot of space on the wing and he combined on a number of occasions with James Sugrue and Peter McCarthy to set up chances.

The Dynamos defence were also kept on their toes as Galway tried to play balls over the top and Derek O’Brien had to be fast off his line as a Jason Molloy ball almost found Gearoid Clancy.

Galway United were then forced into making their first change when Gerry Smyth, who was carrying a knock into the game broke down and he was replaced by Seamus Friel.

Uros and James Sugrue then combined to set up Peter McCarthy but his shot across the goal found no Dynamos attacked.

On the 35th minute Damien Locke found himself with a lot of space on the Dynamos left wing and his cross was pin-point onto the head of Uros but his header flashed just wide.

Dynamos were on top now and were really pressing for the opening. Chris Kerins showed great feet to create a shooting chance and shortly after, with the half drawing to a close Adrian Quirke also had a shot on target but Darragh Gerarty in the Galway goal coped easily with both efforts.

Just before the half Galway’s injury crisis worsened as Clancy, with torn ligaments, followed Cian McBrien, concussion, onto the subs bench and with no one else to bring on they were forced to play the second half with nine players.

However, with Sean O’Connor on the line, Galway United remained very hard to break down and with just one man up front made Dynamos work very hard.

As the second period did develop it was Dynamos that were attacking and Chirs Kerins played a great one two with Sugrue but Tony Keily got in a great block.

Next up Uros found Chris Kerins who played in David Conway, who hit a great shot on the run which grazed the foot of the post.

Dynamos made a number of changes bringing on Eddie Duggan, Jeffery Roche and Aaron Houlihan and they upped the tempo.

Peter McCarthy and Eoin Cassidy were next to go close, both with shots just wide before the first goal eventually did come.

On the 70th minute David Conway played a great through ball which Chris Kerins got onto, beat the defence and rounded the keeper. As he was about to roll the ball into an empty net he passed to Peter McCarthy who did score, but the Galway players did object strenuously that McCarthy had run off side.

But the goal stood and five minutes later it was 2-0 and this time there was no doubts.

Jeffery Roche was played in by Eddie Duggan and his pinpoint cross was headed home by the diving Chris Kerins.

It was all Dynamos now and they could have got a third following another very good move involving Houlihan and Duggan which ended with Kerins smacking a header off the underside of the crossbar.

Dynamos ended the game with ten players following Eoin Cassidy’s dismissal for a second yellow card.

The was the last chance and Dynamos will be happy to have three weeks on the board before their two week break – where the management and Board will be anxious to tie up the signings of a number of players who have indicated an ambition to join and play League of Ireland football.

Dynamos next League game is away to Limerick on the week ending June 27th.
