Moroney double sets Saints on way to victory in Tralee
Tralee Dynamos 1 St Michaels 3
As expected St Michaels proved far too strong for a very flat Tralee Dynamos side in this well contested Lucozade Munster Junior Cup semi final at Mounthawk Park on Saturday evening.
Back in 1983 Dynamos travelled to Tipperary and beat St Michaels at the same stage 3-2 before losing the final to Temple United but this time around there was no repeat as the visitors seemed to be far superior.
The issue was never really in doubt as St Michaels dominated in all areas against a very nervous looking Dynamos side that never really looked like causing an upset and at the end the day, the visitors deserved to advance to the final where they will meet their great rivals, Clonmel Town.

St Michaels dominated at midfield where Davy Ryan ran the show along with the hard working Andrew Flynn and the pacey Brendan Cronin who troubled the Dynamos defence from the very outset.
Mark Fitzgerald and Samier tried hard for the home side but they were being over-run and the defence was creaking as Darren Crotty was in trouble at left full back while Maurice O’Rahilly and Eoin Cassidy had their hands full with Barry Ryan and Aaron Moroney, who threatened on the ground and in the air. Dynamos seemed unable to defend against corners and free kicks, being lucky not to have conceded a few more goals.
St Michaels settled quickly as Dynamos looked tentative during the opening exchanges and Davy Ryan gave an indication of things to come when he sent a ball over the top and Cassidy had to fly kick the ball to touch.
Edward Duggan responded for Dynamos at the other end but he mis-hit his cross and Breen cleared the danger. Billy Stack then skipped past Denis Cremins who appeared to be struggling but it was merely a mirage as Cremins settled down to have a fine game.

St Michaels had a great chance of taking the lead in the 12th minute when Brendan Cronin took advantage of a slip at midfield by Maurice O’Rahilly and he raced clear down the left before crossing for Barry Ryan who powered a superb header but it was just inches over the top.

St Michaels seemed to have the measure of the Kerry side down both flanks with Davy Peters and Cronin causing problems to the Dynamos defence which was showing signs of wilting. The home-side should have probably made more of a good chance in the 17th minute when O’Rahilly hit a ball over the top to Diggins who crossed to Adrian McHugh, but his effort was smothered by keeper Ian Bennis.

St Michaels took the lead a minute later when a ball over the top from Flynn saw Aaron Moroney outpace Crotty as he raced into the Dynamos box and clinically swept the ball past Polish keeper Robert Polowczyk for a goal that exposed the home-side’s lack of pace at the back.

Five minutes later St Michaels struck again after Dynamos failed to deal with a high ball and after Crotty’s header eventually fell to Moroney, he had time and space to pick his spot as the keeper remained on his line, to make it 2-0.

Dynamos tried to resurrect their challenge but it was all in vain as McHugh, Duggan and Samier had half chances but at the other end Barry Ryan flashed a header inches over the top and St Michaels looked to have matters well in control

Anyone expecting a Dynamos fightback in the second half were to be disappointed as St Michaels were always in control except for the final ten minutes but by that stage the crowd and the game were well gone.
Within ninety seconds of the resumption it was game set and match to St Michaels when Davy Ryan met Barry Ryan’s left wing corner and unchallenged he headed past a static keeper to make a Dynamos comeback unlikely if not impossible.

The home side got a consolation goal in the 56th minute when Damien Diggins fired home after a goalmouth scramble after a Samier free kick but it was never going to be enough.

St Michaels should have added another in the 59th minute when Moroney was put through and with only the keeper to beat, he chipped him but the ball just landed on the cross bar on the way over.
Crotty took a ball off the line after Polowczyk fumbled a Moroney shot and Ryan lobbed the keeper but it went over as St Michaels remained in control. Despite a late fight-back by Dynamos, it was St Michaels who qualified for the final.

Ten minutes from time Adrian McHugh and Denny Peters were red carded but it was a sporting contest in the main, despite the referee issuing eight yellow and two red.
