Denny Premier B:
TRALEE DYNAMOS 1, TRALEE CELTIC 0
TRALEE Dynamos got back to league action when they faced Tralee Celtic in a
rearranged Denny Premier B game at Cahermoneen on Sunday and they emerged with
their long unbeaten record intact.
However, it was victory at a price as Dynamos keeper Derek OShea was shown
the red card after the game and with reserve keeper Tim Cotter unavailable it
looks as if they face a major problem ahead of their trip to Tipperary next
Sunday in the Munster Junior Cup.
Tralee Celtic have been going through a sticky patch of late but raised their
game against a side who have not suffered a defeat in over two years in the
league.
Celtic can thank Kerry U-21 keeper Dermot Ragget who produced some remarkable
saves on a day where his side defended very well and contained the league
champions with some spirited defending on a heavy surface.
Dynamos took the lead in the 25th minute when Mark Fitzgerald and Damien Diggins
did the approach work and when the ball came back out Samier hit it on the half
volley to the roof of the Celtic net, giving Raggett no chance.
Both sides created chances in the opening half but the finishing was not top
drawer. Celtic played only Fergal Moynihan up front for most of the game and
counter attacked well but Cassidy and ORahilly did well at the back for
Dynamos.
Conditions and some tenacious tackling by Celtic meant that the game was always
going to be tight. OShea was called into action on a couple of occasions in
the second half as Celtic threatened to score saving from OConnell, Gerry
Lynch and Moynihan on two occasions.
The effort seemed have taken its toll on Celtic as Dynamos finished the stronger
in the final 15 minutes when they went close to increasing their lead.
Diggins and then Adrian McHugh should have scored, and then substitute Edward
Duggan got inside the Celtic cover and he normally puts that type of a chance
away but he missed as well. Still, Dynamos hung on for a narrow win but the
performance as not up to what they normally produce. For their part, Tralee
Celtic have 17 points and this should be more than enough to keep them in the
top flight.
Tralee Dynamos travel to North Tipperary next Sunday hoping to make it to
the last eight of the Munster Junior Cup with the prospect of home tie against
either Fairview or St Michaels being the carrot awaiting the winner.
However, they will have to find a new goalkeeper as they after Derek OShea
moment of madness sees him suspended for that match.
