LIMERICK F.C. 0 TRALEE DYNAMOS 2

Padraig Harnett Media Officer writes;

Dynamos showed no cobwebs following the two week League of Ireland break as they added another three points to those they picked up in their last game.

The Tralee side were delighted to welcome back Jonathan Burrows and Maurice O’Rahilly, both of whom would have big influences on the game.

However they were without the suspended Eoin Cassidy, who was serving a one match suspension.

Dynamos also continued their admiral policy of bringing young players through to the top level of football and had Uros Ivkovic and Aaron Houlihan in the starting line-up, with Scott Monaghan making his A Championship debut of the bench later in the game.

Dynamos were on the front foot from the start of the game and playing some flowing football. Chris Kerins was busy early on and almost put Houlihan in while in the tenth minute Kerins, McCarthy and Sugrue combined to set up Kerins but his shot was cleared.

It took Limerick until the 16th minute to create anything and their first shot in anger came from Cillian O’Connor whose effort was well over the bar.

Dynamos hit back in the 20th minute when Uros found Kerins who did get his shot on target but Quinn in the Limerick goal saved well.

They kept up the pressure and next to try his luck was David Conway who fired across goal after getting on the end of a Sugrue free kick.

One minute later it looked like they were in for goal when Kerins beat the offside trap but Quinn got down well to save.

Limerick’s only real threat was coming from the long throws of Davin O’Neill, who would put Rory Delap to shame with the length of his throws.

The break through did come in the 42nd minute. Sustained Dynamos pressure saw them win a corner. Sugrue swung in the cross, which came back out to him via Uros and on his second attempt Maurice O’Rahilly, who had stayed up with the attack, headed the ball home.

To show his value to the team on the next Limerick attack he was the player who got the block on Balagh who was bearing down on goal.

With the interval score at 1-0 Dynamos were looking good and they started the second period on the attack again. Houlihan found Adrian Quirke on the edge of the box but his volley was just wide, Uros set up David Conway but his shot was too high and Kerins and Uros put Houlihan in but the defence crowed him out – and all this in the first ten minutes of the second half.

Barry had Limericks first effort of the period with a shot from distance in the 15th minute but to be honest they created very little for the rest of the game.

They did have one good effort in the 82nd minute when O’Neill’s free kick found the target but Del O’Shea saved easily.

In between Dynamos were playing all the football but if there was a concern it was that they couldn’t find the second goal to wrap up the points early.

Eddie Duggan and Scott Monaghan were introduced mid way through the half and both did good work on the flanks.

It looked like remaining 1-0 but in the 89th minute Dynamos got the second they deserved. Kerins did very well to disguise his pass to Sugrue who timed his run to perfection and once he was one on one with the keeper there was only going to be one outcome and he rounded Quinn to roll the ball home and move Dynamos onto six points from their three League games.

Next up is table toppers UCD in Tralee next Sunday and then the following week will come another historic moment for soccer in Kerry.

The A Championship side are away to FC Carlow while the Under 20’s will make their League debut at home to Mervue United.

Going on today’s performances a number of the young players will be pushing for an A spot. There are now 45 players training (with the door still open) so competition is fierce to be involved on the day that there will be two League of Ireland teams in action on the same day.
