GREYHOUND BAR K.O. CUP

Dynamos given a fright before second half goals see Dingle exit.

DI NGLE BAY ROVERS    0   TRALEE DYNAMOS   3
 by Murt Murphy

At a wet and wild Dingle Bay Rovers pitch the locals battled hard but just failed to take a major scalp when,
Tralee Dynamos proved to be crafter in front of goal and so advance to the next round of the Kerry's premier
competition, the Greyhound Bar K.O. Cup.

In fairness Dingle Bay Rovers have made massive strides in recent seasons and played a lot of young players
on Sunday who more than held their own with one of the top teams in Kerry soccer and indeed if Dingle had
been able to finish maybe they could have created an upset.

However Tralee Dynamos though not at full strength still had enough quality on view to chisel out a result and
though it took them until the hour mark to get the lead goal they finished strongly against a vibrant home side.

Tralee Dynamos had a mixture of youth and experience at the back with Maurice O'Rahilly and Darren Crotty
being joined by youth players Theo Diggins and Damien Quirke who are maturing with every game. This win
was achieved by Dynamos despite the absence for a variety of reasons, of the likes of James Sugrue, Del O'Shea,
Eoin Cassidy, Eddie Duggan and Poga McCannon.

Despite losing Dingle Bay Rovers can draw much encouragement from this game and young players like Pa Sheehy,
Luke Burgess, Joe Sheehy and James Coffey are all players to look out for in the future.

In fact Dingle dominated the opening ten minutes and had three good chances of taking the lead, all from Kenny Murphy,
two from place balls, one driven wide and the other saved by Damien Diggins, while Dingle's man of the match Murphy
was well wide with the third.

Dynamos had their first attack in the tenth minute when James Wall found Adrian McHugh and his cross was just missed
by the inrushing Jason Fitzgerald.McHugh and Fitzgerald again combined in the 16th minute to set up James Wall but his
shot with his weaker foot, was easily saved by keeper Colm O'Connor.

Dingle were dangerous on the break and Burgess got through in the 23rd minute and forced Diggins into another good
save. A minute later James Wall had a shot which was blocked by Mark O'Sullivan at the expense of a corner.Dingle now
were well in the game and in the 28th minute Pa Sheehy played Burgess through and it took a great tackle from Maurice
O'Rahilly to keep the striker out.

In the 37th minute a Kenny Murphy shot forced Diggins to dive full length and concede the first corner to the home side.
It was now Dingle who had the initiative and they missed a great chance of the lead goal in the 41st minute when Aodh
Curran combined with Burgess for Joe Sheehy to drive the ball across the goal, when he should have done better.

Dingle were happy to be level at the break and while Dynamos always looked dangerous they didn't create too many clear
cut chances despite the good work of David Conway and James Wall. Again it was Dingle who started the second half the
better and in the 49th minute Pa Sheehy was through one on one with the keeper but again shot wide when a more
experienced head might have scored.

Another attack had Dynamos under pressure but Sheehy again shot wide and at this stage the game was in the balance.
However it took a goal of a freak nature to prove the turning point when David Conway collected the ball five yards inside
his own half in the 60th minute and despite being near the side line his long ball, which was really aimed for a striker,
was taken in the wind and with the keeper off his line the ball ended up in the Dingle net.

This was a body blow for the home side and Dynamos should have doubled their lead when James Wall sent McHugh
through but he shot wide when he might have scored. Another cross from Darren Crotty in the 68th minute saw Adrian
McHugh power his header off the crossbar. In the 73rd minute Luke Burgess was through one on one again with the
keeper but Diggins saved as Dingle threatened to spoil Dynamos party.

However the game was settled in the 75th minute when a quick move saw James Wall thread a ball through to Adrian
McHugh and beating a defender he took it past the goalkeeper before side-footing it to the net. Dingle huffed and puffed
but could not blow Dynamos house down and the game was wrapped up in the 86th minute when Maurice O'Rahilly won
a good ball at the third attempt and racing forward he crossed for David Conway to head the ball down to the inrushing
Wall who volleyed to the Dingle net.

It was in essence an example of the more experienced side proving more clinical in front of goal and Dingle to be fair hit
the post in the 88th minute while McIntyre who had gone into goals for Dynamos, turned Murphy's free kick behind for
a corner and then Theo Diggins cleared the resultant corner kick off the line.

So a win for Dynamos but Dingle Bay Rovers emerged with a lot of credit from the game.
